Five top tips for the perfect Gin and Tonic

With World Gin Day coming up on 10 June, our resident cocktail king Pete Simpson tells us how to make a perfect pouring of the classic drink.

1) Make it with pride

It may be World Gin Day, but there certainly aren't many things more British than a G&T. So while the whole world is enjoying this national icon of ours, let's have some pride in the absolute service we did for everybody out there when we came up with the G&T.

2) Make it with ease

Don't tell anybody, but making a proper gin and tonic is actually very easy and equally quaffable. By just following the few pieces of advice we're giving you here, you can throw one together with no skill necessary!

3) Make it cold

Try if you can to keep everything as cold as possible, including glassware. Gin kept in the freezer gives a lovely, smooth and silky texture and adding lots of ice will slow down the dilution of the drink.

4) Make it yours

Adding a garnish is the finishing touch to the perfect G&T, but what should you use? Well, the answer is it's entirely up to you! Anything works, from the original garnish of lime, to woody herbs. Rosemary is a good example that works really well.

5) Make it last

...or not! Now that you are a trained Old Stocks cocktail connoisseur and you have your perfect G&T in front of you, there's only one thing left to do. Enjoy your drink!
