Refurbishment

Things have really moved on since we last shared an update with you just before Christmas. It’s been full steam ahead over the last couple of months, and work is going on all throughout The Old Stocks at the moment. Due to the nature of having so many different tradesmen in, and due to the nature of the building, our site team are currently working wherever they can. This way, the whole hotel is taking shape at once.

Most of the bedrooms have now been boarded, skimmed and plastered, which means the bathrooms can be fully fitted. We’ve also started to fit some of the wooden wall panels in the bedrooms. To create the wall panels, our site team provide the Tekne workshop in Poole with accurate measurements. The workshop then cuts the panels, paints and finishes them ready to fit. We hope you like the colour scheme!

Once the plaster is dry in the bedrooms, our next step will be to fit the wardrobes. Like the wall panels, these are created in the Tekne workshop – due to the unique nature of the building, they all have to be individually produced to make the most of the space in each bedroom. The site team take measurements and then pass these onto the workshop, who will create each unit to specification.

When these units arrive at The Old Stocks, the carpenters then have to make sure that each one fits into the space, sometimes having to trim units down to accommodate for any beams or irregularities in the wall. This requires a great amount of precision and skill to ensure that each unit slots into place snugly.

While the site team have been waiting to fit the bedroom furniture, they’ve been keeping busy in the kitchen. The extractor fan has been fitted and Tekne are in the process of creating a new airflow system, meaning our kitchen team can work safely and comfortably. The remainder of the building work in this area will be completed in the next week, and the rest of the equipment can then be fitted.

We’re very excited that the kitchen should be ready and complete in a couple of weeks, and the main bar and restaurant toilets will also be fitted and completed by next week. We’re amazed at how quickly it’s all coming together, and it’s exciting to see whole areas of The Old Stocks Inn coming to completion!
