Our Head Housekeeper will lead and inspire a small team of Housekeepers, developing and training them to ensure excellent and consistent standards are maintained throughout our busy inn. We’re looking for a real stickler for detail, who appreciates the importance of little details that make the big difference. You’ll take responsibility for the overall hygiene and cleanliness of all guest-facing areas of the inn, as well as the bedrooms. We require someone who’s experienced in managing supply costs, dealing with suppliers and ordering all materials needed, and someone who can ensure that stocktaking, budgeting and paperwork documentation are all in line with set targets.
We need you to be a key part of the senior management team at The Old Stocks Inn, having the passion and drive to expand our busy hotel and restaurant, while taking overall responsibility for the cleanliness, presentation and overall ambience of our beautiful, newly refurbished 16 bedrooms and other hotel areas.
Key responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for the standards of hygiene and presentation for the entire hotel
- Deal with suppliers of: linen for rooms and other departments, cleaning materials and guest supplies, such as soap, shampoo, etc
- Control supply costs, as well as laundry, maintenance and wages
- Schedule staff rotas
- Oversee stocktakes, budgets and other paperwork, such as maintenance reports and safety audits
- Ensure lost property is kept safely and returned to its owner
- Be aware of green issues
- Attend regular heads of department meetings and cascade all relevant information down effectively
People management:
- Lead and inspire our progressive team of Housekeepers
- Take full responsibility of the Housekeeping staff for day-to-day operations
- Recruit, train, oversee day-to-day work and develop of the team, addressing any performance issues
- Carry out annual staff appraisals and regular job chats
- Champion staff development and adequate succession planning within the team
- Plan, write, and communicate rotas to ensure adequate housekeeping staffing
- Adjust rotas needed to ensure optimum efficiency and quality is maintained
- Responsible for an excellent standard of hygiene control, COSSH and documentation
Essential qualities
- An exceptional eye for detail and a passion for cleaning and hospitality
- Ability to nurture a good working relationship with other departments, such as reception and maintenance
- Excellent time management skills so you can juggle your many duties
- Attention to detail to ensure rooms are clean and well serviced and that equipment is stored safely
- Excellent knowledge of health and safety procedures and the ability to train staff in hazardous cleaning materials
- Able to carry out security protocol in case of emergency
- Self-motivated, adaptable, an excellent team motivator and team builder
- Effective at cost control, keeping wages, uniforms and laundry within budget
- Responsive and able to solve problems and think on your feet
Education/Qualification requirements
Minimum:
- Previous experience of working in a similar role for more than 12 months
- Good level of basic numeracy, literacy and IT skills in order to support stock control, ordering and staff management through effective communication
- Working with COSSH and compliance with health and safety regulations
Desirable:
- Relevant NVQs, SVQs, HND or other hospitality management qualifications
- First Aid certificate/qualification
